Things I Wish I’d Known From the Beginning: Well-Being

I’m on my way back from the annual meeting of the American College of Surgeons where I was delighted to lead a “meet the expert” session on well-being. These are some of my favorite sessions. Instead of the “sage on the stage” model, we always have a great conversation… and I always learn far more than I teach.

To get the conversation started, I put together a handout with “10” bullet points of things I wish I’d known earlier in my career… which I’m happy to share with you.

Stay well!

p.s. If you’d like me to email you a copy of the pdf, just let me know.

  1. Thank you for sharing this — I love the framing of “meet the expert” as a genuine conversation rather than a lecture. Surgeons talking openly about well-being still feels rare, and a peer-discussion format sounds far more useful than another slide deck. The “10 things I wish I’d known earlier” idea resonates beyond medicine too — most of us only figure out sustainable habits after burning out first.
